AutoRAMS is online software that creates site-specific RAMS (risk assessments and method statements) for UK contractors. You pick the jobs, add the site, and download a full RAMS under your own name and logo. This page sets out plainly what it does, what it includes, who it is for and what it costs.

At a glance

  • What it is: a hosted web application for creating, amending, storing and searching RAMS.
  • Who it is for: UK contractors and specialist trades who are asked for RAMS by clients and principal contractors.
  • Trades covered: roofing, plumbing and heating, carpentry and joinery, electrical, scaffolding, groundworks, bricklaying and masonry, and utility surveying.
  • Library size: 699 job types across those trades, each with a written sequence of operation and a job-specific risk assessment.
  • Output: a branded RAMS document with its own reference, issue, revision and review date.
  • Price: from £25 a month, month to month, with a free 14-day trial.
  • Made by: Ambler Group Limited, a UK company.

How it works

AutoRAMS follows four stages: Plan, Assess, Generate, Comply.

  1. Plan. Search your trade's job list and tick everything that will happen on the visit, then add the site: address, dates, area type, access, your team and the nearest A&E.
  2. Assess. AutoRAMS builds the risk assessment for those jobs on that site, with ratings before and after controls. A school, a live road or a rail site each change the controls.
  3. Generate. Download the full RAMS under your name and logo. Jobs from more than one trade can be combined in one document.
  4. Comply. Your competent person checks it, the team signs the briefing sheet on site, and every amendment becomes the next revision with the history kept.

What is in every RAMS

  1. Introduction, scope and job details
  2. Legislation covering the work
  3. Resources, key personnel and plant
  4. PPE: mandatory and as required
  5. Sequence of operation for each job
  6. Emergency procedures and nearest A&E
  7. Risk assessment, before and after controls
  8. COSHH and environmental controls
  9. Change control register
  10. Briefing and sign-off sheet

A confined space permit is added when the job needs one. You can choose Basic, Balanced or High detail, and ticking confined space or work at height steps the detail up to suit the risk.

Other features

  • Your branding: your logo, colours and office number on every page, with a separate profile for each company name you run.
  • Revision control: each amendment gets the next revision letter and a change control entry. Earlier revisions stay downloadable.
  • Team access: staff have their own logins, and every RAMS your company produces is searchable by address, client or reference.
  • Free amendments: only new RAMS count towards the monthly allowance.
  • Requests: members can ask for jobs and features they need, and added jobs become available to every member on that trade.

What AutoRAMS is not

AutoRAMS is not a substitute for a competent person, and it is not legal advice. Every site is different. A competent person in your company must check each RAMS against your trade standards and the site in front of you, and make sure all risks are assessed before work starts. Responsibility for health and safety arrangements stays with you.

Coming next

Version 2 is planned to add a permit creation tool in its own dashboard alongside your RAMS, covering permits such as hot works, working at height, confined space and excavation. Details and pricing will be announced before launch.

Frequently asked questions

What is AutoRAMS?

AutoRAMS is online software that creates site-specific risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for UK contractors. You choose the jobs and add the site details, and it produces a full branded RAMS document with your logo, a reference, a revision and a review date.

Who makes AutoRAMS?

AutoRAMS is a product of Ambler Group Limited, a UK company (company number 12568344).

How much does AutoRAMS cost?

Paid plans run from £25 a month (Solo) to £240 a month (Large Business), with an Enterprise option on bespoke terms. All prices include VAT. Extra users and extra trades are £6 a month each. There is a free 14-day trial.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. The trial lasts 14 days, includes 2 RAMS and 1 user, and trial documents are watermarked and view-only. One free trial is available per company.

Is there a contract?

No. Plans are month to month, paid by Direct Debit, with no minimum term. You can cancel from your account at any time, keep full use until the end of the month you have paid for, and download your RAMS for 90 days after you cancel.

Which trades does AutoRAMS cover?

Roofing, plumbing and heating, carpentry and joinery, electrical, scaffolding, groundworks, bricklaying and masonry, and utility surveying. Between them the job libraries hold 699 job types, and more jobs and trades are added over time.

Does AutoRAMS replace a competent person?

No. AutoRAMS produces a thorough, well-structured starting point. A competent person in your company must check each RAMS against your trade standards and the actual site before work starts. The final say is always yours.

Is a RAMS from AutoRAMS the same as a template?

A template is a blank form you fill in yourself. AutoRAMS builds the document from a job library: each job comes with its own sequence of operation and risk assessment, and the site details you enter change the controls and the level of detail.

Does amending a RAMS use up my allowance?

No. Only newly created RAMS count towards your monthly limit. Amending an existing RAMS creates the next revision, with a line in the change control register, and earlier revisions stay available.
